Crisis & Solutions

We are facing a crisis due to:

Lack of Resources

Homelessness

Behavioral Problems

Poor health

Learning Disabilities

Crisis Hunger

  • The US Department of Agriculture considers South Dallas to be a food desert. Statistics show that people who live food deserts eat more fast food and have significantly higher rates of obesity and diabetes.
  • The median household income in 75215 is $26,316, 49% below the Dallas county median while the federal poverty level was $26,200 in 2020. However, most experts consider families making twice that much to be low income
  • According to a report from Parkland Health & Hospital System Dallas County ’ s most unhealthy residents live in a cluster of five zip codes all in southern Dallas. 75215 is # 1 on that list for residence having the lowest life expectancy.
  • U.S. Dept of Agriculture latest report found 1 in 6 kids live in food insecure homes. Kids who don ’t have access to food are much more likely to face unhealthy, unsuccessful and uncertain futures
  • Low-income families having fewer options for maintaining their health are essentially setting communities up to fail.
